Carberry shines on Mac Black Mac led his rivals a merry dance as he made all to land the Ladbrokes Handicap Chase at Killarney. Paul Carberry judged things to perfection in front and had his rivals at work before the third last. He asked his mount for an effort after the second last and the 16/1 shot looked in control from there, producing a terrific leap at the final fence to settle matters. Stonesinmypocket chased in vain, going down by eight lengths, while 2/1 favourite Dunroe Boy, who had worked hard to get into contention in the straight, could only manage third. The winner had returned to action just a week ago at Wexford, when well held in ninth, and obviously benefitted from that run and a change in tactics. "I only have him ten weeks," said trainer Andrew Slattery. "We ran him at Wexford but didnt know how to ride him (held up then) and we were trying to settle him at home. "I was hoping the ground might be a bit softer and would have fancied him if it had been soft. He gallops all day." (on course reporting by Thomas Weekes)
