Paul Carberry holds more than an outside chance of breaking the six season reign of Ruby Walsh as Champion Jockey, when displaying all the qualities that made him twice Champion Rider in the 2000s, when steering Save My Blushes to win Roscommon’s feature race, the Kilbegnet EBF Novice Chase, today.
Save My Blushes appeared to hold no chance when well last at the fourth last fence today but Carberry never gave up on the four year old, eventually wearing down front-runner Echo Bob on the run-in, scoring an unlikely half length win.
Afterwards winning trainer Paul Flynn stated “Carberry was unbelievable on Save My Blushes - I thought he would be pulled up at one stage!”
He added “Save My Blushes is for sale and is entered in the Brightwells Flat Horses-In-Training Sales next month but can be bought before then as it would save me the trip over! My wife Claire Howes owns him and it was a nice touch to win today.”
The win moves Carberry onto the 26 winner mark for the season, six behind leader Andrew McNamara with Ruby Walsh on 16 wins.
