Aurora Butterfly beats Detailed© Photo Healy Racing
The Willie McCreery-trained Aurora Butterfly got on top in the closing stages to justify her short price in the median auction maiden at Clonmel. Detailed took them along in the contest, over just less than ten furlongs, and the 1/4 shot had to work to get on terms with the front-runner going to the furlong pole.
The hotpot got her head in front inside the final furlong and was well on top at the line as she started to assert close home for a length-and-a-quarter victory under Billy Lee.
There was drama after the line as Detailed hung left and unseated Ana O'Brien. Fortunately she walked away from the spill. After taking her ride in the following race O'Brien was stood down for the rest of the day.
Aurora Butterfly had been narrowly denied on her debut in a Leopardstown maiden early last month before running with credit on her second outing when fifth in a Listed contest at Navan.
"We were on a hiding to nothing as if you don't win you're an eejit and if you win, sure you should have!" said McCreery.
"Billy said she just idled but to win is great as she is a very well bred filly. She is a half-sister to Diamond Green and is the last filly out of the mare and Maurice Burns in Rathasker Stud bred her.
"She'd prefer a little ease but I had to run her as there were only three declarations. However they have done a great job on the ground here and it's lovely."
"She was unlucky the last day, when beaten by two heads for third in a Listed race, and it's all about black-type now - black-type is the only thing we want now!"
