Brough Academy proved too good in Kilbeggan’s bumper for his 14 rivals as Nina Carberry steered the 5/2 favourite to a facile eight lengths success.
The duo hit the front approaching the straight and were never in any danger. Here’s Jenny was beaten into second place at 13/2 with four and a half lengths to Grainne Delight in third.
The runner’s participation was in doubt as trainer Joanna Morgan explained: “I near pulled him out because of the ground changing.
“He’s small and I felt with 12 stone it would be better to take him out.
“He’s tough and only for my daughter Katie he wouldn’t have run. She said to run him as he’s as tough as nails.
“He’s got a class pedigree and he’s a class little horse.
“He jumps like a buck and he’s for sale as his owner Derek Iceton is more of a flat man.
“I’d love to keep him if I can get a buyer as he’ll win loads of races.”
The winner suffered a walk in the betting market from an opening show of 13/8 to a returned 5/2.
Several horses were supported: Moyne Nineoseven from 20/1 in the morning, down to an SP of 10/1. He finished fourth. Alderbuck for Paul Nolan and Patrick Mullins saw support at 4/1 down to 10/3. He finished fifth while Alf Wright saw money from 12/1 in the morning, opened at 10/1 and went off 13/2. He finished seventh.
