Brooch remains unbeaten in Lanwades Brooch completed a Group 2 double at the Curragh for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen when maintaining her unbeaten record in the Lanwades Stud Stakes. The Weld/Smullen team were on the mark earlier with Mustajeeb in the Greenlands, and Brooch is now four from four after making a successful reappearance in this mile event. The Khalid Abdullah-owned filly led over a furlong out, and really got on top in the closing stages. The well-backed 8/11 favourite beat Ramone by two and a quarter lengths, with Amazing Maria staying on just a head further back in third. Weld said, ""She's a gorgeous filly - she's class. She's unbeaten and wants to go further. "I've always thought she wanted a mile-and-a-quarter but the Windsor Forest at Ascot will have to be considered. It's a stiff mile. "I'll speak to Lord Grimthorpe and Prince Khalid and see if we stay the mile route or go a mile-and-a-quarter. "She was only getting going in the last furlong and when we see her over a mile-and-a-quarter we'll really see the best of her. "It's beautiful ground out there today and there is no excuse for anything. Any horse that couldn't handle that couldn't handle anything." Smullen said, "She was a big unfurnished filly last year and the boss was very patient with her. She's only after filling her frame over the winter. "It was a lovely race to start her off but ideally she wants to go a bit further." (GC & AM)
