Wexford trainer Moses McCabe sent out his first winner since November 2017 when Brog Ahaon triumphed in the BetVictor Bet 5 Get 40 Offer Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan.
Not without his supporters, Brog Ahaon (7/2 into 11/4) made all under Sean Flanagan to beat well-backed favourite Tara Dylan (11/4 into 2/1) by two and three parts of a length.
The other big one in the market, Mooltazem (7/4 out to 5/2) ended up four and a half lengths back in third as the principals drew clear of the rest.
"He was knocking at the door for a long time and I have to thank his owner Michael Hanrahan for keeping the horse with me and I'm delighted to train a winner for him," said McCabe.
"We fancied him today and Sean was quickly away on him and that was the plan We'll look for a novice race next."
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Jack Holiday ridden by Mr R.W. Barron, and trained by John F. Gleeson.
Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned.
Mr R.W. Barron stated that he was instructed to ride his mount as he thought best. On his last run in Ballinrobe, Jack Holiday ran free and in Mr. Barron's opinion it was best to drop him in at the rear, get his jumping settled and finish in the best possible position.
Mr. Barron stated that his mount ran free early on, settled after the third hurdle, got a good run on the final circuit however blew up turning into the bend and if he had been pushed on sooner he may not have finished as close as he did.
Mr. Barron stated that he normally rides winners from off the pace and he was satisfied that he gave his mount a strong ride and finished in the best possible position.
John F. Gleeson confirmed the instructions given to Mr. Barron and added that his charge would prefer a longer trip, possibly 2 1/2 miles, and is a difficult horse to train.
The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Jack Holiday was post race normal.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
