There was a major surprise in the Listed Quinnbet Handicap Chase at Leopardstown as 33/1 outsider Brideswell Lad swept home by a length and three-quarters.

A lovely jump five out saw him improve into second just behind Battle Of Mirbat and he took over three out.

Another terrific jump two out saw him increase his advantage over Battle Of Mirbat as Birchdale soon began to take closer order in third.

Brian Hayes had plenty of horse under him and the leader refused to yield as led over the last by two lengths from Birchdale.

It wasn't his best leap but, crucially, he landed in stride and motored in at 33/1 from Battle Of Mirbat (7/1) and Birchdale (11/1).

Trainer Seamus Neville said: “He’d a very heavy fall in Listowel and it took him a long time to recover. We felt he was getting there of late.

“He would be ground dependant as well, so it’s not too heavy.

“He’ll probably go to Fairyhouse and Punchestown and we’ll keep him going for the summer.”
