Brazos just held on to land the spoils in the featured KWD Kingdom Gold Cup at Killarney this afternoon.

The 14/1 shot was one of three runners for John Murphy in the €50,000 handicap and tracked the leaders early on in the mile-and-six contest.

Daniel Redmond sent his mount up to dispute with top-weight Gustavus Vassa passing the two pole and he soon had the advantage.

Another of Willie Mullins' quarter, Exchange Rate started to motor inside the final furlong to emerge as a big danger.

There was nothing between them as they flashed past the post but Brazos just held on to post a head success.

The winner was a course and distance winner at the May meeting but had been well held subsequently when mid-division in the big amateur race at Galway. He was equipped with blinkers for the first time today.

The trainer's son and assistant George Murphy said:- "He has a massive engine and while he is very genuine is quite lazy.

“Derek O'Connor rode him at Galway the last day and said he was on and off it (the bridle) and the blinkers helped him travel today.

"He stays very well, is ground-versatile and could run in the Irish Cesarewitch now."
