Bowerman bags win for McGuinness The Ado McGuinness-trained Bowerman got on top in the closing stages to land the spoils in the Listen To The Beat Race at Gowran Park. Ideal Pal took them along in the mile contest and proved a tough nut to crack down the straight. He fought off the attentions of Mia Maria and Stormy Belle but couldn't hold the late charge of Bowerman. Ronan Whelan got a great tune from the five-year-old in the closing stages to lead in the last 50 yards and record a half length victory on the 7/2 shot. The son of Dutch Art had won three times for Roger Varian in England and was scoring for the first time for current connections having cost 52,000gns at the July Sales. Assistant trainer Stephen Thorne said:- "We bought him at the sales six week ago and he has had his issues but was value for what we paid for him. “He is a high class handicapper in our view, a touch of Stakes company, but it's nice to get some money into the till and it was a race which suited him well. "He has a nice knee action and baring that in mind we might look for slower ground rather than rattling quick ground. He has won three times on the all-weather so we might try and see can we get a race at Dundalk. "He is still a colt but when we give him a break we might geld him, although it doesn't seem to be bothering him and he is the quietest horse you'd ever know for a colt." (Quotes by Tom Weekes)
