Berry returns at Dundalk Fran Berry makes a welcome return to action at Dundalk tomorrow evening following four months on the sidelines with a broken ankle. Berry (31) suffered the injury while riding in Japan last November, and has been steadily working his way back to full fitness with the aid of the mechanical horse at the RACE apprentice centre as well as riding out over the past few weeks. He partners Fairy Wing for his main retained stable of Jessica Harrington in the seven furlongs rated race, and also the Val Ward-trained Regal Tramp in the 47-65 rated mile and a half handicap on the Irish News-sponsored card. The Racing Post-sponsored Winter Series also comes to an exciting conclusion at the polytrack tomorrow evening with plenty to play for in both the riders and trainers competition. Wayne Lordan heads the jockeys table with 11 winners but he is just one ahead of both Kevin Manning and Shane Foley, while Johnny Murtagh and Pat Smullen are one further adrift on nine wins. Eddie Lynam looked sure to win the trainers division a few weeks ago but the impressive recent form of the Jim Bolger stable, including a double here last Friday, has seen the Coolcullen maestro narrow the gap to just one (13-12). Charlie Swan and Michael Halford are next best on nine winners apiece.
