Course specialist Benbaun completed his 6th victory on the Curragh when coming home in front in The Dubai Duty Free Millenium Millionaire Group 3 Sapphire Stakes under Pat Smullen, making it a first win for the geldings new trainer Kevin Ryan.
Winning trainer Ryan said afterwards, “This horse has been looked after really well all of his life and it’s great to win with him. He’s getting older but he appears to have the right attitude. He doesn’t like soft ground but the edge seems to be taken off today. There is another race here later in the year for him and I would love to run him in the Nunthorpe Stakes and he really likes France so we might also go for the Prix de L’abbaye.”
Mark Wallace previous trainer of Benbaun has recently moved to Australia to start training over there and hopes to saddle his first runner later in the week.
