With three in contention at the final fence in the beginners’ chase, a good jump was crucial and Beeverstown (8/1) delivered to run out the winner at Limerick. Turban had tracked Beeverstown coming to that fence and looked poised to win, but he crumpled on landing and couldn’t regain momentum and so the 6/4 favourite had to settle for second.
Beeverstown and Andrew McNamara had led from flagfall. His trainer Jim Culloty commented: “He’s a great horse and he jumped well and he obviously handles the ground.
“He was in the process of running a nice race the last day when he got tired and fell. Robbie gave him a great ride. He nicked 20 lengths at the start and he let him go to sleep for the rest of the race.
“He can race keenly early on, but if he learns to settle a bit more he’ll stay further.”
