Bainne wins on her handicap debut Bainne (which is the Irish for Milk) held off the late challenge of the favourite to take the Dogs For Disabled June 8th 3yo Handicap under Joe Doyle for trainer Charlie Swan. The daughter of Strategic Choice was making her handicap debut this afternoon, after being placed on three of her eight starts in maiden company. Sent off at 14/1 she made headway from a furlong and a half out and she was ridden into second under a furlong from home. She hit the front 150 yards from the line and she kept on well from there to hold off the late challenge of the 9/4 favourite, Peggy’s Leg under Fran Berry for Jessica Harrington, by half a length. Quinne was three parts of a length back in third for Arthur Moore and Kevin Manning at 14/1 while the front-running Catwilldo faded close home to finish fifth for Garvan Donnelly and Ian Brennan. Charlie Swan said afterwards: "She's very consistent and has been knocking on the door. "Joe gave her a great ride. He is a cool rider and he should do well. I’ll be giving him more opportunities and I think his claim is down to seven pounds now. "I’ll keep her going now in five or six furlong handicaps as she has plenty of pace."
