Final Approach faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a tendon injury in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham last week.

The six-year-old son of Pivotal, who enjoyed big handicap wins last season in the MCR Hurdle at Leopardstown and the Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, came home eleventh behind the gambled-on Son Of Flicka at Prestbury Park last Wednesday.

Trainer Willie Mullins said, “Final Approach suffered a tendon injury in the Coral Cup, although thankfully he’s the only one of my Cheltenham team to get an injury. Some of the others picked up some nicks and cuts but nothing serious.

“Hurricane Fly has come out of the Champion Hurdle well and, like all of my good horses, he will go to Punchestown. He just seemed a bit flat on the day.

“Boston Bob didn’t travel at all in the Albert Bartlett. He had quite a hard race at Leopardstown and that might have taken its toll.”
