It was another Weld winner at Galway in the totegoracingclub.com but it was Wicklow trainer Stuart Weld on the mark this time with 20/1 shot Gris Ladera Cairdiuil made a bold bid to make all the running in the mile contest only to be denied in the dying strides.

Gris Ladera got going inside the final furlong, under a strong drive from Fergal Lynch, and lunged late to grab the spoils.

It was the first success in just over a year for Weld and the winner was opening her account having slipped down the handicap after three moderate runs this season.

Weld revealed that he is a second cousin of Dermot and his family have a small breeding operation in Aughrim:-

"I was worried that the trip might be too short. She's had a few niggly problems but is over those and her prep work was very good.

"The rain came in time for her as we knew she wanted a cut. We've had a few placed horses here in the past so we're delighted to have a winner.

"The dam is ex-Moyglare. She's the second foal and the first won in England so it's nice to get a win with her."

Leigh Roche, rider of the runner-up Cairdiuil, received a two-day whip ban.
