The big priced winners continued at Naas this afternoon as Akeela sprang a 40/1 shock in the apprentice handicap, over just shy of six furlongs.

Cian Horgan weaved his way through the field in the final furlong as the Mark Cahill-trained filly got up late on to score by half a length from Cross Border

It was tight for the places with a short-head back to Eriskay in third and the same to Scarlet Dancer in fourth.

The winner had been well held in handicap company here last time having been third in a Sligo claimer previously.

“She works well and her second last run was good,” said Cahill afterwards.

“She disappointed us here the last day but Ben Coen felt we rode her a bit too handy then and felt she'd be better with a bit of cover.

“In fairness Cian did a great job on her today and it worked out well.

“It was five the last day and the little bit extra was probably a help, maybe six is her trip ideally.”
