6mm eases ground at Cheltenham

The ground has eased slightly at Cheltenham and is now good to soft (good in places) for today's Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase meeting following 6mm of rain overnight.

Cheltenham's Clerk of the Course Simon Claisse said on Channel 4's Morning Line programme this morning, "We had more rain than expected last night. The forecast was for about 2mm but in fact we got 6mm.

"It has changed the ground from good yesterday to now be good to soft (good in places). It may dry out a bit throughout today but I would expect it to be pretty similar for tomorrow's meeting."

The "Paddy Power" favourite Mon Parrain, who is bidding to give champion trainer Paul Nicholls his first winner in the competitive handicap, has drifted out to a top-priced 5/1 with William Hill.

The first on a six race card at Prestbury Park gets underway at 1.20pm.
