Anyone who indulged in the ‘getting out stakes’ in the Galway Festival’s closing bumper got their fingers burned as Another Charm stayed on stoutly at 20/1 to beat odds on favourite Tasitiocht
Willie and Patrick Mullins combined with Tasitiocht who was chasing a treble. She travelled sweetly and hit the front turning in for home.
At that stage punters were working out their winnings on the 8/11 favourite. Celtic Abbey looked the only credible danger, but he soon found little under pressure.
Another Charm, however, came with a wet sail under Derek O’Connor and collared Tasitiocht close home to win by half a length.
John Kiely saddled the winner and he said: “She’s very well bred. She’s a half sister to The Bunny Boiler who won the Irish Grand National, but she’s a man’s ride. She’s difficult to ride but has plenty of ability.
“She ran the last day in Wexford and did everything except knock herself [ninth of 13 in a two and a half mile maiden hurdle on 20 June].
“She’ll make a good broodmare prospect.” Elegant Concorde from Dermot Weld’s yard with Robbie McNamara up, could make no impression on the leaders in the final furlong, to finish third of the nine runners at 11/4.
British-based trainer Keith Goldsworthy had his first runner in Ireland with Sir Benfro Nina Carberry cut out the early pace on him but he faded to finish seventh.
The winner paid 27.90 euro on the Tote.
