Clonroche handler Lar Byrne won't forget tonight's meeting at his local track of Wexford in a hurry, as it marked the occasion of his first double. After Key Account won the fourth, the Phelim Byrne Seasuir At Wexford Racecourse Handicap Hurdle, to add to the gains by stable companion Posh Frock in the first, those lucky enough to have combined the pair would be heading for payout at odds of 209/1.
After Posh Frock had gone in in the 6.00 under Brian Hayes, some punters may have latched on to Key Account. They'll have enjoyed viewing the 7.30 as the Martin Ferris-ridden 9/1 chance made most.
Slight mistakes two out and at the last did little to impede his momentum and he asserted away on the run-in to account for Ni Sin E Mo Ainm by fourteen lengths with favourite Cloudy Morning four lengths back in third.
Byrne explained: "He is a quirky little fella with plenty of ability. We've tried everything with him, blinkers, cheekpieces, earplugs, everything, but he obviously appreciates that bit of ground.
"We thought he was pigging it but he didn't pig it today. He loved it out there and it's great to have my first double at my home track.
"We'll keep him on the go now and he will jump a fence, he has a nice mark at that game.
"Eddie Keating (recently on the mark at Tramore) is the only lad I have riding out as I only have four in at the moment. He is a very good chap."
For owner Damien Carroll Key Account's win also brought up a double as he has the first winner Posh Frock through an associate, Sean Malone. (DM & EM)
