3:40pm There's the the usual eccentricity to this event with the 2009 and 2010 winners renewing rivalries. Shin A Vee won in 2009 but was narrowly beaten by COOL WARRIOR the following year and, while Derek O'Connor is a notable booking, Shin A Vee has been absent for 772 days and is now passed over. Preference is for 12 year old COOL WARRIOR, who at least has proven fitness on his side. The other 14 runners have mustered just 10 point to points wins between them and finding a form alternative to either of the two previous winners is difficult. Ten year old Norwich Flyer has three point to point wins to his name though and may play a prominent roll while Enniskillen, who worringly is still a maiden point to pointer, ran ok in the Ladies Cup on Tuesday and has minor claims. He must be a iron horse to do what he did! . He had a very hard race at Aintree, but because of his age and the stage he is at in his career I decided to let him take his chance, and maybe I wouldn't have done it with a young horse. He probably doesn't do as much at home as he used too, so we put the cheekpieces on him, and we put a stablemate up beside him as well. Mourad (finished fifth) is coming back to himself as well. We got him out of a claimer in France so they are not all expensive horses. With Punchestown being a week later this year, it means the race in France will come a week sooner, so we might skip Punchestown and go for the Prix Barka and then the Franch Champion. I've a list of people who want him when he is retired for a hack, but I might have to jump the queue myself!

He will be well entered up in the Champion Hurdle and the World Hurdle. He seems to run up to his mark every time he runs. He has picked up a lot of prize-money along the way and is a great servant. He had the best form over 2m in this race and was a stone in hand on official figures. The Aintree Hurdle over 2m 4f, which he ran a cracker in last season, is a long term realistic target. He will be left in the Hatton's Grace as late as possible but he will probably go for the 2m Grade 1 Hurdle at Leoparstown at Christmas.

It's unfortunate we don't have him in Thurles on Thursday. He hasn't jumped a fence yet so I'm not sure what we'll do go chasing or stick to hurdling. I think he'll go on softer ground and he's lots of gears and I'd say we could drop him back to two miles.
