Permission was given for Fouroneohfever (IRE), Pappano (GB) and Tryfan (GB) to wear a red hood to post and Dramatic Star (GB) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
Hampden (IRE) was kicked at the start.
Having been checked by the Veterinary Surgeon, the gelding was deemed fit to run.
Approaching the winning post on the first circuit a free-running Pappano (GB), placed fifth, shifted left-handed tightening up East India Dock (GB), placed fourth, for racing room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approximately 5 furlongs out Dramatic Star (GB), unplaced, slipped badly behind and as a result Wild Waves (IRE), unplaced, was significantly hampered whilst Tryfan (GB), placed sixth, was also inconvenienced.
As a result of this incident, Tom Marquand eased Dramatic Star (GB) out of the race.
Approaching 4½ furlongs out Wild Waves (IRE), unplaced, slipped up badly and hampered Tryfan (GB), placed sixth, which was following in behind.
An inspection was held following concerns raised after horses slipping in race 2.
Riders, Tom Marquand, James Doyle, Robert Havlin, Luke Morris, Oisin Murphy and Kevin Stott; Trainers, Thady Gosden, William Haggas and the representative of George Boughey; The Clerk of the Course, the General Manager and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed.
Having inspected the track and considered the evidence, the Stewards ordered racing to continue following remedial works on the bend.
Following the race, Tom Marquand reported that Dramatic Star (GB), unplaced, slipped badly approximately five furlongs out; Oisin Murphy reported that Wild Waves (IRE), unplaced, slipped badly four and a half furlongs out and Rossa Ryan reported that Games People Play (IRE), unplaced, slipped four and a half furlongs out.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Hampden (IRE), unplaced, lost its left-hind shoe.
