The Stewards interviewed W.J. Lee, rider of Beleaguerment, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, W.J. Lee stated that he switched his whip hand and his mount went to the right. He added that he had used his whip twice close to the finish for corrective purposes and demonstrated where he had moved his body weight to the left because of his mounts hanging. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that W.J. Lee was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration and pursuant to the provisions of R10(6)(a), the Stewards suspended W.J. Lee for six racedays
W.J. Lee, rider of Beleaguerment trained by James McAuley, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the last one hundred and fifty yards
