An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Rushmore (GB), ridden by Joey Haynes and trained by Chelsea Banham, which was restrained early on from stall 10 and settled in rear throughout, before being patiently ridden until asked for an effort near the 2 furlong marker, whereupon the gelding stayed on evenly to finish to sixth, beaten by 4¾ lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that 2 post-race examinations of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities, however Rushmore (GB) had been coughing on the first examination.

The rider stated that his instructions were to take his time on Rushmore (GB), creep into the race and try to avoid being pushed wide when mounting his challenge.

Haynes explained that Rushmore (GB) has a history of being keen and with the pace being only modest on this occasion, the gelding was inclined to run freely at stages.

Haynes added that he was reluctant to course wide in order to improve his position from leaving the back straight, having felt that this had cost his mount HANDEL victory in the previous race and for this reason had ridden Rushmore (GB) conservatively seeking the most economical passage into the race.

Haynes further added that HANDEL had stayed on one-paced through beaten horses in the home straight, despite him having to slightly change course on more than occasion to secure clear running.

The trainer confirmed the instructions and that the ride had accorded with them, before adding that she was satisfied with the ride on Rushmore (GB).

Their explanations were noted and the gelding was routine tested.

Following the race, William Cox reported that Glint Of An Eye (IRE), placed fourth, was slowly away.
