We only got him in January and he’s been fantastic and is so tough. Kevin said we could step him up in trip, and that would give him more options as well. He could come back here for a Graded race later in the year if the ground is suitable. This is what it’s all about, winning here at the Festival.

I was out of control the whole way to be completely honest, until we got to the two furlong marker and from there I just tried to sit still and try to keep the saddle in place. Thankfully he had the ability to hold on. As they turned into the straight I was very much in fear of coming off him but thankfully when he straightened up I realised they weren’t going to get to me I said we’d better make the best of a bad situation! It was just one of those things. the saddle slipped properly up the horse’s neck but fair play to Pat! I’ve known him since we were pony racing together and he’s a good family friend and I think this is his best year ever. Xsquared will go to Galway for the 2m2f novice chase on Wednesday next.

That was great, it was a good performance by the horse. I must thank everyone at home, Gavin Lawlor especially as he does everything with him. He is a pleasure at the races but a nightmare at home, he is very tricky and very hard to ride out, but Gavin does a fair job with him. He had a busy week so he will probably get a little bit of an easy time now. His owners (the Adders Syndicate) came to me this year, and I'm delighted now, you couldn't ask for any better than that. He will definitely mix it. He got nine pounds for winning on the flat the other day but I still think there is another one in him although he is now just out of the 65's. He has a high enough mark over hurdles.

he was getting a bit clever on the flat. We stepped him up to a mile and a half, and I was worried going out if he would get it but seems more settled. He's a lovely horse to have for the summer and there is a fair chance he could run over fences at Wexford on Friday. He’ll mix it between fences and the flat as his mark is too high over hurdles.

we’re a group of four retired maths lecturers from DIT and this is our only horse. We’ll talk to Peter (Fahey) about plans but he could go to Killarney next and could also run back on the flat.

He's owned by a group of mathematicians hence the name. He was tricky and difficult to place on the flat. He's been knocking on the door lately and he jumps well. I always thought he'd stay two miles given the way he's bred.

They are all mathematicians. They are mostly from Dublin but some are from Kildare. Three of them are here today. He is a very giddy sort of horse. He is in at Gowran and Bellewstown during the week but he needs better ground and it may be that he'll be hurdling next.
