The American bred son of Bernardini won his maiden on his second start at Limerick last June and having went close on a couple of occasions in handicaps, he gained a deserved victory this afternoon. Xsquared attempted to make all under Joseph O’Brien but he was caught by Dansili Dual (7/1) inside the final furlong before both Danzerini and Saratoga Baby swallowed up him in the final 100 yards.

The Mick Halford trained victor had raced towards the rear for much of the contest but he kept on best close home, seeing off the Peter Fahey trained, Ronan Whelan ridden, Saratoga Baby (4/1) by half a length.

The successful Barouche Stud owned gelding was returned at 3/1 with Conversational going off the 2/1 favourite for Andrew Oliver and Shane Foley.

She had been backed from her morning price of 4/1 but could only manage a disappointing fifth.

Halford said afterwards: "That was ride of the week and he loves that ground. He deserved that win and he really rattled off the fast ground.

"I thought he got a wonderful ride from Shane and he has been riding great all year."
