Permission was given for Tenjin (GB) and Pending Appeal (GB) to wear a red hood to the start; Thunder Ball (GB) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Leaving the stalls, Aira Force (GB), placed third, jumped right-handed, making contact with and unbalancing Fox Degree (IRE), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Aira Force (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start involving Royal Mariner (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Tom Queally; Unlimited Data (GB), unplaced, ridden by Lewis Edmunds; and Pending Appeal (GB), unplaced, ridden by Robert Havlin.
The interference was found to be accidental in that Royal Mariner (IRE) lugged slightly right-handed whilst running freely, bumping and unbalancing Unlimited Data (GB) who in turn made contact with Pending Appeal (GB) which became unbalanced as a result, with those runners all becoming unbalanced for a number of strides thereafter.
Following the race, Richard Kingscote reported that Aira Force (GB), placed third, jumped right-handed leaving the stalls and Benoit de la Sayette reported that Expert Agent (GB), placed fifth, hung right-handed.
