An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Wanees (GB), ridden by Jim Crowley and trained by Charles Hills, as the colt appeared to be tenderly handled inside the final 2 furlongs, finishing sixth of fourteen, beaten by 7 ½ lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated that his instructions were to get cover and try to help Wanees (GB) to relax.

He explained that the colt jumped well and proceeded to run too freely for the first 2 furlongs, leaving him in a position with not as much cover as he would have liked, which led the colt to continue to run freely, a fact which he reported to scales.

He added that he lost the cover that he had approximately 2 furlongs out and after running free for most of the race, he felt Wanees (GB) starting to empty.

He further added that he then chose to give the colt a hand heels ride to the line and in his opinion, passed tiring horses in the final furlong.

The trainer stated that he was satisfied with the ride and that it accorded with the instructions given.

Their explanations were noted.

Following the race, Saffie Osborne reported that Game Nation (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away, Pat Dobbs reported that Oh Herberts Reign (IRE), placed second, hung right-handed throughout, Jane Elliott reported that Prince Of Persia (IRE), unplaced, was denied a clear run and Hollie Doyle reported that Space Cowboy (IRE), unplaced, ran too free.
