Permission was given for Ambling (IRE) to go early to post.
Jason Watson, the rider of Rhythmic Intent (IRE), unplaced, appeared to prematurely ease his mount after suffering interference approximately 2 ½ furlongs out.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Watson’s explanation that he was concerned that Rhythmic Intent (IRE) had clipped heels during the interference, so was concerned for the colt’s welfare was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong when Starfighter (GB), placed second, ridden by Richard Kingscote, interfered with Star Of War (USA), placed fifth, ridden by Sean Levey, who in turn interfered with Ambling (IRE), placed eighth, ridden by Robert Havlin.
The interference was found to be accidental as Starfighter (GB) shifted quickly left away from the whip, before being quickly corrected, causing interference to Star Of War (USA) and Ambling (IRE).
Following the race, Silvestre de Sousa reported that My Dear Friend (GB), unplaced, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
