An enquiry was held to consider why David Simcock was running Starczewski (USA) here at York on going described as Good to Firm, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Great Yarmouth on 7 August 2019 on ground with the same official description.
Having spoken to Simcock on the telephone, he stated that the ground at Great Yarmouth had changed and he had opted to run Starczewski (USA) in a more valuable race at Chelmsford.
Permission was given for Hamish (GB) to go early to post and the gelding wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Approximately 3 furlongs out, Kiefer (GB), unplaced, edged slightly left away from the whip, causing Universal Order (GB), unplaced, to be checked, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The performance of KING’S VOW (FR), which finished last of twelve, was considered.
The representative of Joseph O’Brien could offer no explanation for the colt’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of KING’S VOW (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Kiefer (GB), unplaced, was showing signs of post-race heat stress.
