An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Dancing Rave (GB), ridden by Shane Gray and trained by David O’Meara which was restrained leaving the stalls and dropped in at the rear of the field before staying on under a predominantly hands and heels ride in the straight to finish fifth of eight runners, beaten by two lengths.
Gray was interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to get cover on the filly.
He explained that he was able to fold across in behind runners going into the first bend and was content with his early position on the rail at the rear of the field.
He added that he had been unable to improve his position until an opportunity had presented itself at which point he angled the filly wider entering the home straight whereupon his mount had failed to quicken up in the manner in which he had expected.
Gray further added that he had given Dancing Rave (GB) a backhander inside the final furlong where she hung left-handed briefly and thereafter had only stayed on at the one pace to obtain the best possible placing in his opinion.
His explanation was noted.
