Permission was given for Bookmark (GB) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring only and go early to post.
Approaching the 2 furlong marker, the winner, Bookmark (GB), was switched right-handed to avoid the heels of a rapidly weakening Fast Steps (IRE), placed eighth, resulting in Qaasid (IRE), placed fifth, being carried off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Bookmark (GB).
The performance of Fast Steps (IRE), which started joint second-favourite and finished eighth, beaten by 16¼ lengths, was considered.
Sean Levey reported that the colt ran too free and the representative of Richard Hannon’s explanation that Fast Steps (IRE) was unsuited by the tight nature of the track here at Chester, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities.
