She was a big price but we were expecting as she was in very good form today,. Last week she wasn't in as good a form (when seventh) and she didn't even travel up to the races that well. Everything went well in her preparation all week and we were delighted with her. Her brother won this time last year up here as well, Drish Venture, we had a great time with him as well. This one is big and she's going to improve and improve. We'll probably put her away now, if we can sell her we will but she'll make a smashing three-year-old.
Donal Commins, trainer
The Stewards requested a report from Donal Commins, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Drish Melody, placed first, as compared with its most recent run. Donal Cummins stated that his charge got quite upset travelling to the races at Dundalk on the first of December and this may have attributed to its poor performance
Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation given
J. Coen, rider of Satin Snake (GB) trained by Gerard O'Leary, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was slowly away and hung right in the straight
W.M. Lordan, rider of Gunners Dream trained by Patrick Martin, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the straight
An extended handicap for two years old only rated 45-75
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 9st 12lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 8st 6lbs
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra for each race won.
