we've decided to go the same route as Ainippe with her and as winners' races are few and far between, the Group 3 Curragh Stakes (August 22nd) is the next obvious race. We'll keep to the same route as Ainippe and won't over-faze her this year although I'm not saying she'll go to England like Ainippe. She's not over-big but shows plenty of speed and is very professional - she's a little bullet. G M Lyons, trainer

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Caribbean Spring, trained by D. K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Caribbean Spring, ridden by P.J. Smullen, and trained by D. K. Weld. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer's representative concerned. P.J. Smullen, stated that he was instructed to take his time and to finish as best as he could. He added that in running his mount broke very quickly and he allowed him to race with the leaders rather than take him back but found his mount stopped quicky and failed to finish his race being ridden hands and heels in the closing stages. He felt that his mount was not enjoying today's fast ground and would benefit from an ease in the ground and possibly the application of blinkers but overall he was a disappointing horse compared with his home work. Patrick O'Brien, Authorised representative of D. K. Weld, trainer, confirmed the riding instructions and agreed with the overall assessment as relayed by the rider. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Caribbean Spring was found to be clinically abnormal post race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence along with the veterinary report the Stewards accepted the explanations offered.
