Permission was given for Patontheback (IRE) to go early to post and for Magical Effect (IRE) to go early to post and be mounted in the chute.
Prior to this race, Simon Whitaker was asked to explain the reason why he was running Round The Island (GB) here at Pontefract on going described as Good to Firm, Good (in places), having declared the gelding a non-runner at Pontefract on 12 June 2023 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that following rainfall this morning, in his opinion the ground was riding better than the official description.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately one furlong out, involving Impeller (GB), placed second, ridden by Duran Fentiman and South Dakota Sioux (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Daniel Tudhope.
The interference was found to be accidental as South Dakota Sioux (IRE) lugged marginally right-handed away from Late Arrival (IRE), unplaced, at the same time as Impeller (GB) was switched marginally left-handed, resulting in the rider of South Dakota Sioux (IRE) becoming short for room and taking a check.
Leaving the stalls, Corinthia Knight (IRE), unplaced, edged quickly right-handed, giving a bump to Atomise (GB), placed second, which in turn, turned the hindquarters of Round The Island (GB), unplaced.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approaching the final furlong, Wreck It Ryley (IRE), placed fifth, switched left-handed off the heels of Atomise (GB), placed second, causing the rider of Round The Island (GB), unplaced, to ease momentarily.
