For some distance rounding the first bend, the free running winner, Kettle Hill (GB), had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Biggles (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approximately ¾ of a furlong out involving Big Wing (IRE), ridden by Rossa Ryan and Mount Marcy (IRE), ridden by Robert Havlin, both of which dead-heated for third place.
The Stewards considered that the interference was accidental in that Mount Marcy (IRE) veered quickly right-handed whilst racing greenly bumping Big Wing (IRE), causing that gelding to become unbalanced when hampered and carried off its intended line.
They also found that it had improved the placing of Mount Marcy (IRE), as Big Wing (IRE) had lost vital ground and momentum at a crucial stage of the race as a result of the interference, before continuing to make ground all the way to the line and finish in a dead-heat for third place.
The placings were revised as follows: Third – Big Wing (IRE), Fourth – Mount Marcy (IRE).
