He is a legend up here!. He was plenty high in the handicap and just pulls it out. Once they didn't fly by him up the straight, and once he gets into a battle, he really is hardy. In Ireland there are a lot of good riders and we had Adam (Caffrey) on the other one (Rocky Dreams) and it was a flip of a coin who ended up on what one. To be fair, we did get in very early this week (to book Stone-Walsh). Apart from the 4lb claim, he's good and strong. He was the leading horse here last year. Derek (O'Connor) just half missed getting the hood off him in Laytown, so he came out after them. He had no blinkers or anything on and he just enjoyed his day out then.

After race at Naas Wed, 26th Jul, 2023 (1st)
It was brilliant! . The horses have been flying and then we went to Ballinrobe, they don't like them long trips! Every one of them ran shocking, it was like someone hit the handbrake on us. You can set your clock by him. When I saw Joey making the manoeuvre he made I said 'where is he going, from one rail to the other', but he gave him a brilliant ride. Dating back to when he was a 10lb claimer we've always had a good association with Joey. You know what you get with him, he's no nonsense and he was brilliant. People laughed at us when we took this horse out of a claimer last year, with the age of him, but I'd gladly swap every horse in the yard for a few more of him. Every time he goes if he doesn't win he pays for him and some of the other runners. He's brilliant.

Joey is brilliant for that (front-running), he really is. If ever a jockey was made for a horse, it was him especially with the hotpot (6/5f Dream Today) and the only way to do it was to try and be aggressive and see - catch me if you can. We told him 'when you go for him, absolutely set him alight and if it works it works, and if it doesn't, it isn't down on you'. When he gets away like that, you can ride him like that because he won't shirk it. If horses are coming to him, he won't throw it in like some horses - if you go too hard they just fold. He was leading it (leading horse of the winter series in Dundalk) up until today. Actually, the horse that finished second (Inflection Point) was second in the race for it. For an old horse like him to do that, it is grand. I think that is four winners in the last three meetings here. When you get good, genuine horses like that, you can run them away. To be fair, a few of the horses I ran today the jockeys are saying it is just a bit quick for them up here and to try them on the grass. We'll tip away and see how they fare. It is great to get Joey a winner as well, we have had a long association with him.

He can be ignorant enough at home but he had gone quiet which isn't like him. Much and all as I like quiet horses around the place, he needs to be at you and running off the end of the gallops. We ran him over five (in Bellewstown) specifically to sharpen him up. His whole demeanour has changed in the last couple of weeks. He ran himself into that mark when he was quiet at home, he was running okay without going overboard. I think the run over five definitely sharpened him up. I'd say Billy will be happy with a break when this is over in two weeks' time! He has earned them (tonight's winners), they weren't steering jobs. Anything he is available for, he can ride. The same with Colin (Keane), he was just chinned in the first (on Eglish). They are the best jockeys around and it makes sense to use them. Billy was available for those two and I'm delighted that he rode them.

After race at Dundalk Fri, 21st Oct, 2022 (1st)
Even though we were nicking the odd winner, the seconds were mounting up, so it was great to get. Billy gave him a brilliant ride. We ran him twice over five furlongs in Bellewstown and I'd say that fairly sharpened him. Billy gave him a great ride - to cut the corner the way he did and even coming up this side (stands' side). I've never seen so many horses coming up this side. It definitely doesn't seem to be a disadvantage. The horse had been due a win, to be fair. He has been very good to us since we claimed him with plenty of placed runs. I'd say Billy made a difference on him. He likes to bounce out and bowl along, I think sometimes we have got into speed duels with people. I said to Billy 'if you get to the front you get to the front, but I wouldn't gunfire it'. That probably made a difference. He will take a lead. We run him over every type of trip so we are probably more responsible than the horse for some of his other runs. I'm delighted to get that and that equals last year's tally, we got 20 last year.

After race at Sligo Sun, 1st May, 2022 (1st)
he’s so consistent and the last time he finished out of the first five was July 2021 which is no mean feat in the competitive racing in Ireland. Donagh (O’Connor) was excellent on him. From stall 13 he managed to get him over to make the running, steadied it going up the hill and then quickened again. To hold on was brilliant and it was a perfect ride. He’s won over five, six, and seven, on all types of ground, galloping tracks, round tracks. This is like a right-handed Chester but he’s won at the likes of Naas and Ayr as well. He’s so versatile and I’m thrilled with him. I’m delighted for the owner (Hugh Ward) who’s not well at the moment and I hope that will give him a lift.

After race at Navan Tue, 29th Mar, 2022 (1st)
Dundalk is a very fast five with a bend and if they handle that, normally they’ll handle (five furlongs) at a track like Navan with an uphill finish. I was surprised that he was able to dictate away in front. They might have left him alone and Donagh might have been able to do his own fractions and that kind of helped him. He quickened just before the hill and made it into some sort of a stamina test. I would say the blinkers helped him, and the run up at Dundalk on Friday sharpened him up. He’s an old horse and the blinkers are on to try and keep him sharp and active over this shorter trip
