Permission was given for Dillydingdillydong (GB) to wear a red hood to post; Persian Wolf (IRE) to go early to post; Balqaa (GB) to wear a hood in the parade ring.
Leaving the stalls, Sao Timothy (IRE), unplaced, jumped left-handed inconveniencing Capallcliste (IRE), unplaced, which in turn slightly hampered Captain St Lucifer (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from just inside the 1 furlong marker involving the winner, Prince Hector (IRE), ridden by Paula Muir and High Court Judge (USA), placed second, ridden by Rob Hornby.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Prince Hector (IRE)’s placing as the gelding had drifted right-handed into the ground of High Court Judge (USA) for a sustained period resulting in that runner being intimidated several horses’ widths off its intended racing line and the winning distance was the barest possible margin of a nose.
The placings were revised as follows: First - High Court Judge (USA), Second - Prince Hector (IRE), Third - Stoic Syd (IRE).
Muir was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as she had failed to take sufficient steps in order to correct her mount from shifting right-handed off a true line, thereby causing interference to High Court Judge (USA).
Following the race, Silvestre De Sousa reported that Capallcliste (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed.
