D.E. Mullins, rider of Killiney Court trained by C.A.Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise in running. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Jimmy Two Times, ridden by Mr P.E. Turley, and trained by B. R. Hamilton. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Mr P.E. Turley, stated that his instructions were to settle the horse in mid division and to get him jumping by giving him some daylight. He added that the horse jumped right at times and made a respiratory noise in running. He stated that he pushed the horse out to the line but did not resort to the whip as he was conscious of the respiratory problem. The rider concluded by saying that in hindsight he should have pulled the horse up. B. R. Hamilton, confirmed the instructions and added that the horse should improve with experience and be seen to better effect in handicaps. He concluded by saying that taking into account that the horse made a respiratory noise, he would have preferred to see the horse pulled up. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Jimmy Two Times was lame post race and had mucus in the trachea on endoscopic examination. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the stewards noted the explanations offered in relation to the running and riding of Jimmy Two Times. They were, however,of the opinion that Mr. Turley was in breach of Rule 213, having failed to report that his mount made a respiratory noise in running and taking into account his inexperience, severely cautioned him as to his future responsibilities in this regard. Mr. Hamilton was given the benefit of the doubt in relation to any breach of Rule 213 as he was in the process of making a report when asked to take the horse to the Turf Club Veterinary Officer but was cautioned as to his future responsibilities in this regard. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Thoonavolla, ridden by M.P. Butler, and trained by Eoin Doyle. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer's representative. M.P. Butler stated that his instructions were to settle the horse in mid division, get him into a good jumping rhythm and to ultimately do his best. He added that the horse was keen in the early stages and ended up further back than ideal. He also felt that the horse jumped novicey, was unable to go with the pace leaving the back straight and stayed on at one pace in the straight . Ray Cody, representing Eoin Doyle, trainer, confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Thoonavolla was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered, they did however advise M.P.Butler to be seen to be making more effort in future.
