The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Eastern Rules, ridden by C.P. Hoban, placed fifth, Have A Nice Day (GB), ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed sixth, Colour Blue, ridden by R.P. Downey, placed fourth and Withernsea, ridden by J.P. Spencer, placed second. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that J.P.Spencer was in breach of Rule 214, in that he rode carelessly and having considered his record, cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard. J.P. Spencer, rider of Withernsea trained by Richard Fahey (in GB), reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left in the straight.

An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards which are EBF eligible and that, at entry, have run at least twice under any Rules of Racing and are eligible for a handicap rating (105 = 9st 12lb)
Weights - Top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 9st 12lb
Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 105 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 12lb. Subsequently, the excess over 105 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 105 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
