An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference approximately 1 furlong out when the winner, Glen Cove (IRE), ridden by Joey Haynes, interfered with Al Gaiya (FR), placed second, ridden by Kieran O’Neill.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Glen Cove (IRE)’s placing as the gelding had come from behind to make its challenge and despite the interference, always appeared to be holding Al Gaiya (FR) on the run to the line, winning by a short head.
The Stewards were also satisfied that the slight contact with Al Gaiya (FR) appeared to have no effect on its momentum nor cost it any discernible ground.
Haynes was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift slightly left-handed when using his whip in his right hand, before straightening his mount, making slight contact with Al Gaiya (FR).
Following the race, David Probert reported that Velvet And Steel (USA), placed fourth, reared as the stalls opened.
