An enquiry was held to ascertain the reasons why James Doyle had refused to ride Kotyonok (GB), after being unseated going to the start, which resulted in the gelding being withdrawn by the Stewards at 2.
30pm.
Both the rider and trainer, Michael Appleby, were interviewed.
Doyle explained that Kotyonok (GB) had been unruly in the preliminaries and broncked for some distance whilst taking a strong hold, causing him to be unseated.
Based on the evidence of Kotyonok (GB)'s pre-race behaviour, Doyle stated that he was unwilling to further risk his safety by attempting to re-mount.
His explanation was accepted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Caesar Nero (GB), unplaced, had bled from the right nostril.
