Permission was given for Glenartney (GB) to wear a red hood to the start, Lady Hayes (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start and go early to post and Vindobala (IRE) to go early to post.
Inside 1½ furlongs out, the winner, Glenartney (GB), hung quickly left-handed despite the rider’s best efforts to correct the filly and into the path of The Flying Ginger (IRE), placed third, which was hampered when carried off its intended line towards Goldie Hawk (GB), placed second, which was also slightly inconvenienced as a result, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Glenartney (GB).
The performance of By Starlight (IRE), which finished sixth, beaten by 41 lengths was considered.
The representative of Henry Candy’s explanation that the mare was unsuited by both the undulating track and the going, which was officially described as Good to Firm, Good in places on this occasion, and By Starlight (IRE) would appreciate returning to a flatter racing surface as well as more ease in the ground, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of By Starlight (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
