Prior to this race, Michael Bell was asked to explain why he was running Lethal Lunch (GB) here at Newmarket on going described as Soft, having declared the gelding a non-runner over 7 furlongs at Ascot on 8 May 2021 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer’s representative stated that they were more willing for Lethal Lunch (GB) to take its chance here today on the Soft ground over the shorter trip of 5 furlongs on this occasion.
Benefit Street (IRE), trained by Robert Cowell, collided with the running rail prior to entering the course.
Having been checked by the Veterinary Surgeon at the start, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
Following the race, Rob Hornby reported that Additional (IRE), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was denied a clear run approximately 1 furlong out.
