The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Ardhill (IRE), compared with its previous recent form in Ireland was considered.
Gordon Elliott was interviewed by telephone and the trainer’s representative was also present in the enquiry.
Elliott’s comments that Ardhill (IRE) appeared to have benefitted from the application of first-time blinkers, which had allowed the gelding to travel better on this occasion, and had also appreciated the better ground, which was officially described as Good to Soft, Soft in places, with the majority of Ardhill (IRE)’s recent runs having come on Heavy ground, were noted.
The gelding was routine tested.
The Stewards noted that Imphal (GB), placed second, was badly hampered by the fall of Itsnotwhatyouthink (IRE) at the first hurdle.
Following the race, Tom Bellamy reported that Young Butler (IRE), which was pulled up, was hampered at the first hurdle and was never travelling thereafter; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post- race examination of the gelding shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Page Fuller reported that Johnny B (IRE), unplaced, ran in snatches.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Delgany Monarch (IRE), placed seventh, suffered an overreach on its right-fore.
