An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when the winner The First King (IRE), ridden by David Probert interfered with Cityzen Serg (IRE), placed second, ridden by Sean Levey.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved The First King (IRE)’s placing as in the first incident approximately ¾ of a furlong out there was only very minimal contact when the gelding edged slightly right-handed with Cityzen Serg (IRE) appearing to lose no ground or momentum as a result, nor did Levey ever have to stop riding his mount before hitting the front and being out battled on the run to line and beaten by a nose margin.
In the second incident over the final strides of the race it was found that both horses had contributed with The First King (IRE) edging right at the same time as Cityzen Serg (IRE) lugged left, which resulted in the pair making light contact and bumping just before the winning line.
Both incidents were considered to be accidental and the placings remained unaltered.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Heaton Chapel (IRE), unplaced, finished lame on its left-fore.
