ARCHIES LAD caused a 20/1 surprise here, his sound jumping helping him to prevail. Successful pilot, Charles Greene said of the grey, "he stopped in front the last two days in point-to-points but he is a great jumper and he kept going that bit better today." He led before five out and needed to be brave to just hold on by a neck.

BEN ALDER looked like a really dour stayer here but he couldn't quite get to the winner. He can be considered a little unfortunate as the neck scorer's fluent fencing proved crucial. Nicer ground would suit.

MONEY POINT should get a notebook entry on what was his first venture out of maiden point company. He was gaining ground in the jumping stakes throughout but he didn't seem to get home. The Supreme Leader gelding can do better.

TOP TWIG carrying first time cheek-pieces found 7/2 from 9/2 but he couldn't justify that support and this may be as good as he is. This soft terrain wouldn't be his ideal though.

CUPIDS FLYER from the local in-form yard of John Joe Walsh couldn't keep up the trainer's run of a winner a day at this Festival. His jockey, Ambrose McCurtin was severely cautioned for his use of the whip.
