That's great - he's tough and the ground made a difference,. He ran well up the Curragh the last day and wasn't beaten all that far over six. He's come back to form so it's great. J.A. Heffernan, rider of Aubineau (USA), trained by John Joseph Murphy, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount took a false step in the back straight

The Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of Hatton Cross, trained by T.J. O'Mara, placed first compared with its recent form. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned, who stated that his charge finished 14th in the Curragh on his previous run when beaten by 5 lengths and felt this was a good run. He stated that prior to this, his charge ran in an apprentice handicap here in Roscommon on good to firm ground which he felt was less than ideal and was also carried wide in this race. He concluded by stating that his charge appeared to appreciate the slower ground conditions in what he felt was a moderate race. Evidence was also heard from Mr. Mark Bird, Rules of Racing Handicapper, who outlined the animals previous form and felt today's win marked a significant improvement in form.
