Permission was given for Second Collection (GB) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Pink Iceburg (IRE), ridden by Kieren Fox and trained by Peter Crate, which was held up in rear before being asked for an effort 2 ½ furlongs out and staying on under a hands and heels ride to finish fifth of eight, beaten by 5 ¾ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to settle the filly early on as she can be very keen and had bled last time out.
He added that the filly did not face the kick back from the loose turf and did not travel in the early stages as a result, a fact which he reported to scales.
He continued that although Pink Iceburg (IRE) was going forward with him she did not fully respond until he pulled out from behind the other runners in the final 3 furlongs, where upon the filly stayed on before flattening out inside the final furlong.
The trainer stated that the ride accorded with these instructions and that he was satisfied with the ride.
He added that given the race today he feels that the filly would be better suited by a drop-in trip to 5 furlongs.
