In fairness to Niall Madden he's not getting all these fierce chances but gave a good assessment of the horse the last day at Killarney when he said he'd be better with more of a 'dig' (ground) and going the other way. He was entered at Mallow but the ground wasn't what he wanted. His syndicate (Bweeng, Co Cork based Saints & Sinners Syndicate) are very easy to train for and while they were disappointed, waited for today instead. He's a big awkward bugger and will run in plenty of those middle of the road races. He's out of a half-sister to Earthmover so will make a chaser long-term. Michael Winters, trainer

J.J. Burke, rider of Silken Thomas trained by Ms. Sandra Hughes, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise in running. The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Silken Thomas, trained by Ms. Sandra Hughes, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be blowing hard post race.
