Sunsprite (IRE) wore ear plugs which were removed at the start.
Permission was given for Swindler (GB) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.
Approaching the final furlong, Sunsprite (IRE), which was disqualified, shifted right carrying Margub (GB), unplaced, on to Doc Sportello (IRE), unplaced, who became tight for room as the winner, Swindler (GB) shifted marginally left, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
The Clerk of the Scales objected to Sunsprite (IRE), placed second, ridden by Shane Kelly, and trained by Richard Hughes, on the grounds of the rider weighing in at 9st 2lb having weighed out at 9st 9lb.
Sunsprite (IRE) was disqualified and the placings were revised as follows: First: Swindler (GB), Second: Normandy Barriere (IRE), Third: Louie de Palma (GB), Fourth: Lightning Charlie (GB).
The rider, the trainer, the trainer’s representative and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
Hughes was fined £1000 as he had failed to add the weight cloth when saddling Sunsprite (IRE).
